At 9pm, our nurse noticed that Aiden was pale and his core temp was extremely low. Right away, she rushed Aiden to the Intensive Care Unit, where doctors would try figure out what was wrong with our precious baby boy.
At 2am, finally we were able to see our son in the Intensive Care Unit and were told that there was something wrong with his heart and Aiden needs to be transferred to London immediately.
Scared, not knowing what was going on, what was wrong with our precuois little boy, we waited for the ambulance that would transfer Aiden to London Hospital. At 4am, we were on our way to London, following the ambulance to London , it seems like the longest 2 hours of our lives.
In London, we were greeted by doctors who examined Aiden.............
"Aiden was born with a very rare heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. That Aiden is a very sick little boy and we don't feel he has more than 14 days. We suggest you take him home and enjoy his last 14 days of life." we were told.
We couldn't believe our ears. My heart felt like it stopped, I couldn't breathe....... our son was BORN FOR A REASON, there had to be something they could do. Something that could give us some hope.........we needed to fight for him. Give him every chance of survival.
We were transferred to Toronto Sick Kids, where Aiden underwent his first heart surgery at 6 days old. He did better then his surgeon Dr C. Caldrone thought.
Aidan's fight for survival begins......................
Aiden has had to over come many bumps in the road. Infection on the operation site, NECK (bowel Infection), kidney stones, blood clot in the main blood vessel to his liver, a bad case of reflux...... NG tube feedings for his first 4 months and now G-Tube, etc. The list goes on!
